Neck pain in a womanChiropractic Manipulation is Proven to Help Neck Pain.

Well the science finally has proven what chiropractors have know and  been doing for over 100 years. Helping patients get rid of neck pain in a safe and effective way. The Annals of Internal Medicine published in January of 2012 a study funded by the  National Institutes of Health comparing chiropractic, exercise and medicine. The best outcome was enjoyed by the chiropractic patients, secondly by the exercise group and dead last the group taking medicne.

Neck pain is most often a mechanical problem and that is why a chiropractor should treat it.

It just makes common sense that most neck pain is a mechanical problem and that a mechanical solution is the most beneficial.  Chiropractors use spinal manipulation as the prime method of treatment.  Neck pain is often a result of one or more bones of the neck restricted in their normal ability to move. This then sets the stage for muscle spasms and inflamation.  There are six layers of muscles that go from the outer most to the deepest . When we feel  our necks it is the big muscles but the tiny little muscles  deep inside  connecting vertebrae to vertebrae are key for a pain free neck. When those tiny muscles go into spasm the neck vertebrae stop moving. A chiropractic manipulation is a specific maneuver that breaks up the spasm. It works similar to quickly pulling a table cloth from under a glass without it falling. Very fast and at the same time very little force. (In fact a chiropractic manipulation of the neck is 100 times safer than taking an aspirin). This then restores movement to the vertebae, reduces muscle spasm and inflamation resulting in pain relief.

The resarches found that the chiropractic care not only helped reduce the pain but had benefit even one year later.

Medication offers limited neck pain relief with the potential of significant side effects.

Another interesting finding was in addition to medications limited pain relief, another downside: people kept taking them. “The people in the medication group kept on using a higher amount of medication more frequently throughout the follow-up period, up to a year later,” Dr. Bronfort said. “If you’re taking medication over a long time, then we’re running into more systemic side effects like gastrointestinal problems.”

The researcher also expressed concern that those on medications were not as empowered or active in their own care as those in the other groups.

Chiropractic has helped many “Middlebury and Waterbury, Ct. patients.

In my practice where I treat patients from Middlebury, Ct. ,Waterbury and many other surrounding towns I not only use specific manipulation but I also teach and train patients how to correctly exercise their neck and shoulders ( the fouldation for the neck). This protocol is very effective in helping patients from children to seniors.
